Malaysia to expand its legal aid scheme to civil matters

A National Legal Aid Foundation will be set up in Malaysia on 25th of February 2011 under the auspices of the Legal Affairs Division at the Prime Minister’s Department. The purpose of the foundation is to provide legal aid in civil and sharia cases. Legal aid will be available to those whose annual household income is less than 25000 Malaysian ringgit.
